HP hw6500... minus the GPS.

excellent!

HP has designed a version of the HP hw6500 Mobile Messenger called the hw6700 with integrated Wi-Fi in lieu of integrated GPS. so all the things i really like about the hw6500 with the one feature it was sorely missing. and not only was it missing... to add the feature back via an SDIO card... you would have to put the card into the slot on the side of the machine where it would stick out about 1cm or so. bad idea.

but the hw6700?

i can't wait.

although it means i would have to use GPS via a Bluetooth adapter... or go side-slottin' a SDIO GPS receiver... both those options are vastly preferable than side-slottin' a Wi-Fi card. seeing as Wi-Fi would be used daily... (er... hourly... minutely... secondly.) and GPS would be used... well... monthly? weekly? i have no idea really how useful GPS would be to me on a daily basis. but i *know* Wi-Fi is very useful to me which is why i am extra pleased with this hw6700.

now all HP needs to do is price the unlocked / unbranded versions of this device for around current HP 6315 prices. meaning right around or just under $600. please HP?

the article is saying end of April for the hw6500. and most likely the end of June (at least) for the hw6700.
